Yerba Santa Eriodictyon californicum (Hydrophyllaceae) translates from Spanish to "sacred herb", which was named by Spanish colonists--specifically priests as holy weed, who learned of its medicinal virtues from Indigenous Americans. This sticky evergreen with white or blue trumpet-shaped flowers is native to the southwestern United States.
Product Description
Product Description
Unlike many other astringent herbs, yerba santa actually has a pleasant taste and can be used as a food flavoring for herbal syrups to disguise the taste of other ingredients. Traditionally, the leaves were infused and used as a wash to ease fever, and the mashed leaves were applied as a poultice to treat sores.
