Widespread throughout the Pacific Northwest, the Western Red Cedar Thuja plicata (Cupressaceae) is a large, coniferous tree in the Cypress family. Also known as "Canoewood", historically, this species of tree was once used by Indigenous Americans to provide shelter, basket making, crafting medicines, and creating canoes--earning the title "Canoe Wood".

Product Description
Not to be confused with Thuja occidentalis (Eastern White Cedar), medicinally these two cedars share similar healing properties due to overlapping phytochemicals such as thujone, terpenes, and tannins. Also nicknamed 'Arbor Vitae', a French term for Tree of Life, the leaves have an aromatic flavor and scent and may be used with caution as an herbal tea.
